Artist Statement

To put it simply, I take photos of anything I can find that will demonstrate what it was like to live in South Louisiana in the time that I was here. Due to reasons economic, environmental and political, the region we live in is constantly switching between decaying and rebuilding. I believe that a record of what came and went will be important to have down the road.

When I tell people that have been here much longer than me that I enjoy going to Downtown/Mid-City Baton Rouge to take photos, I always get a response along the lines of, “There used to be nothing to do out there” or “I’m glad it’s not as bad as it used to be”.

For better or worse, things will continue to change. Down the line, if I’m ever asked how things were “back in the day”, I hope to have a large body of work that can answer that question for me.
